1.3 Health and Fitness Data
With your explicit permission, we access data from Apple HealthKit:
- Running data -- distance, pace, duration, heart rate, and route information from your run sessions.
- Workout data -- used to correlate learning sessions with physical activity.
We access HealthKit data solely to enhance your learning experience by integrating language lessons with your running activities. We do not sell, share, or use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing purposes. HealthKit data is not transferred to third parties except as required to provide core app functionality.
1.4 Device and Usage Information
- Device type, operating system version, and app version.
- Anonymous usage analytics (feature engagement, crash reports).
- IP address (for security and rate limiting).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalize the Service -- deliver adaptive language lessons tailored to your level, preferences, and running patterns.
- AI processing -- process your audio uploads and generate translations using AI language models.
- Improve the Service -- analyze usage patterns to enhance features, fix bugs, and develop new functionality.
- Communication -- send important account notifications, service updates, and optional learning reminders.
- Security -- detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
- Analytics -- understand how users engage with the Service to improve the overall experience.

3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate and improve RunLingua:
- Anthropic (Claude API) -- processes audio content and generates language translations. Audio and text data are sent to Anthropic's servers for AI processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed by their API. We do not send HealthKit data to Anthropic.
- Apple StoreKit -- manages in-app purchases and subscriptions. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple; we do not collect or store payment card information.
- Google Cloud Platform -- provides cloud infrastructure for data storage and application hosting. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on secure, cloud-hosted servers with industry-standard encryption.
- All data transmissions between your device and our servers use TLS/SSL encryption.
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plaintext.
- We implement access controls, regular security audits, and monitoring to protect your data.
- Audio uploads are stored securely and are accessible only to your account.
While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.
Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement.
